About Southside Dog Cat and Bird Clinic
Southside Clinic Dog Cat and Bird Clinic is a small animal practice based in Oklahoma
City whose business model focuses on walk in visits and surgery. This business,
like most local businesses is not "based" online, rather their online avatar is
more of a digital marquee. Its informational. As such, the site does not focus on
feedback, or contact, nor with online purchase. It does focus; however, on information:
answering common questions, providing directions and directing potential customers
to calling the business and speaking with an associate or veterinarian.
SouthsideClinic.com Website
The site itself has a few interesting design and coding features that are worth
mentioning. The header uses typography and is an appropriation of another designer's
phone ad and reformatted and prepared for website viewing. The Logo also is "mechanical",
that is it responds to the user mousing over it, for a fun interactive element.
Designwise, the site relies primarily on typography and a clean white background.
The emphasis is on a minimalist approach to keep the information clear and readable
for clients of all ages and, of course all screen resolutions. This imposes certain
design limitations and cretive constraints. You want people with screen readers
or old systems to be able to get the information they need from the site.
Another interesting attribute involves randomly generated images of animals, to
keep the content fresh as the user navigates the site. The animals features throughout
are pulled randomly form a folder. Certain considerations, sucha s the directino
the animal faces were taken into account for generative animal placement.
From a coding perspective, one interesting elemnt involved a customized editable
FAQ. The FAQ page has a component that looks at a customized treeview that looks
at an XML file. The user sees the final product, but the business is allowed to
edit this file through a hidden
password protected webpage
that edits and saves the XML file in the correct format.Like th site, the FAQ editor
sports a minimalist interface - it never shows you more than you need. It was programmed entirely in C# with the XML classes in the .Net framework.
